Barcelona Day Three – 6/25

We enjoyed a very liesurely breakfast this morning thanks to awaking early. We almost slept in thanks to the woman in the room next door walking around in heels on the room’s wood floors for what seemed like two hours beginning at 6:00AM.  Our sightseeing plans for today include the Gothic, or old, quarter, the beach, and Las Rampas again for last day souviner shopping since tomorrow we leave for the villa in Carro, France. The first place we went to was the first place Kendra said she wanted to visit in Barcelona: La Catredal. She was so very disappointed to learn that we were not appropriately attired to enter it’s doors. She moped about it for awhile but then bounced back after a visit to the Barcelona City History Museum and the Esglesia de Sants Justi Pastor. On our way to the the third church on the list for today, Esglesia de Santa Maria del Pi, we did a little side street shopping where mom was ALMOST tempted into buying a one-of-a-kind necklace and earring set. Her true geek nature shone though when she decided she’d rather have an iPad than jewels. Lunch at a courtyard cafe, Teima Tapas, while listening to strolling musicians and people watching. After our late lunch we discovered the church was closed for the afternoon until 4:30 (la siesta) so we strolled along Las Rampas again and got the shopping bug worn down before walking down to the man-made beach where we had refreshments and walked along the shore back to the pier. We were exhausted and hungry again by then so decided to eat at Tapas Tapas before catching a cab back to the hotel. By the end of our trip we had walked six miles and our calves were so sore we all took a 600mg ibuprofin we had purchased at the Pharmacia earlier. Only EU2 for a box of 40. we are going to buy a couple more boxes before we leave tomorrow.  The taxi driver we hailed had never been to the Ren before so he gave us a discount on the fare for having to tell him how to get there. Once there we realized for the first time that the fancy entry dome that’s normally lit up like the night sky is really a projecting screen for major sporting events. Tonight it was showing the Brazil v. Spain World Cup game that started at 8:30. I guess that means goodbye to sleep if Spain wins the game tonight. P.S.  Spain won. Fireworks galore.
