Barcelona Day Two – 6/24

Rushed breakfast and no workout since we slept in past our alarm. The shuttle left the hotel at 10 and dropped us off at the Placa d’Espanya, where we caught the red line tour bus. We stayed on the red line until the Casa Vatello, which Kendra wanted to see. We then hoped the blue line to the Sagrada Familia, designed by Antonio Gaudi. Kendra and mom waited in the long lift line to tour one of the 18 towers while Lou and Jess finished the lower tour and waited for us at a cafe just outside the entrance. Jess didn’t want to go up in the lift for fear it would be crowded and she’d get nervous and scared at the top.  It was totally worth the stomach flips to see the stunning vistas of the city through the many windows, of which we took many. Kendra had to hold my hand a few times when I felt dizzy. When we all joined up again it was 3:00 and time for a late lunch. We dined right across from the cathedral at Cerveceria and mom enjoyed calming her shaking legs with her first glass of sangria. After lunch we hoped back on the blue line and transfered to the red one at Diagonal. We ended our trip back where we started and took the steps up the hill to the National Art Museum of Catalonia which we were told commanded excellent views. On the way up up the hill we started noticing a lot of what appeared to be metal rocker fans. I wondered why a bunch of heavy metal fans would be going to the Art Museum when we saw a few who had painted their faces like the Kiss members. It was then that we remembered Kiss was performing tonight. Too bad we learned of it at the last minute, for we would have purchased tickets otherwise.  When we returned to the hotel we headed straight to the Elite Lounge for tapas and refreshments. The girls then checked their emails and headed to the pool. We were not far behind.  We went to the hotel restaurant for a light late dinner since everything around the hotel was closed due to this being a national holiday: The Feast of San Juan.
