Goals: Old and New

In the beginning of this year I set out to accomplish three things: Read one book per week (52); Volunteer two hours per week (104 hours); Exercise every day (365 workouts). As of today, I read 59 books, volunteered 110 hours and logged 360 work outs (328 hours, 2,293 miles). While I’m pleased I met two of my three goals and came close to meeting the third despite being on the injured list several times this year, I’m disappointed I didn’t blow the most important one out of the water. Therefore, I have adjusted my goals to DOUBLE DOWN my volunteer hours plus a few more for good measure to 250 in 2016. I spent a good chunk of my morning researching local non-profit organizations seeking out volunteers with my particular skill-set and passions and these are the opportunities that called to me: 1) Pet Therapist (I’m already registered for a February workshop with Jazz. Moja’s too young yet); 2) Shoveling snow for seniors and disabled (I’ve already filled out the application); 3) Habitat for Humanity All Female Crew; 4) Manning the Hospitality Cart at a local hospital; 5) Providing database, organizational and miscellaneous assistance to Goodwill. Whether I continue to volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Trustees of the Reservation will depend on whether I hear back from the coordinators for numbers 3 through 5. Today was just about throwing a bunch of noodles at the ceiling to see what sticks. As for the exercise and reading, I still plan to enthusiastically do both, but my priority is going to be volunteerism, which is my dream “job.”
