Pumpkinman 70.3 Training: Day One

Day one was a zero, as in zero training. On the schedule for today was a 1,700 meter swim and a 40 minute run. Instead, I went to the CVS Minute Clinic to get prescription cough medicine for a cough which was getting progressively worse. I got not only that, but also an antibiotic for an ear infection, Musinex, Nasonex, strep test (which turned up negative), and a tetanus plus whopping cough vaccination (Lou got one, too). By the time I was finished at the multiple Minute Clinic (which was a great experience, BTW), I was tired and hungry. We decided the best use of our remaining Monday was to eat at Alumnae, take a hot tub, and hit the sack early. At dinner I ordered the stuffed peppers because I figured, “what the heck. I’ll work it off tomorrow.” That stuffed pepper was the best I had ever eaten. One was plenty so now I have a delicious lunch for tomorrow. Back home, we did as planned and all went well until an hour after taking the codeine cough syrup I realized it wasn’t working and my back, which started being sore yesterday from all my coughing, was hurting worse. Finally, after trying everything under the moon to get comfortable and quiet my cough I gave up. Lou said over the weekend he was also feeling fluish and I wanted him to get some sleep tonight. With all hope of being able to run and take my morning fitness class abandoned, the cats and me hijacked Kendra’s room (because they haired it up while we’re renovating the study). I retain hope, however, that I’ll at least be able to swim after Kendra’s award ceremony tomorrow … I mean today.
