We hit the road for our New Hampshire camping trip yesterday around 11:00am and arrived around 3:00pm. The first thing we did after setting up camp was portage our brand new 14th anniversary kayaks down to the lake. The second thing we did was make sure the labs were comfy in the camper so we could experiment with how Moja will handle being on the water. Turns out, while she has no interest whatsoever in being IN the water, she absolutely relishes being ON the water. Towards the end of our paddle time she got a little TOO brave and slipped off the deck. She immediately started paddling towards shore but obedience lessons paid off when she turned back towards the kayak at the “come” and “touch” commands. When she swam close enough I reached over and snatched her up and back into the hull. It was a great unintentional test of the kayak’s stability, and I was grateful we didn’t do that test with one of the labs. Speaking of which, they got to take a little swim after we retired the kayaks for the day. Moja, of course, wouldn’t even go in far enough to get her feet wet again.
