I had some time on my hands at the house this morning while I waited for the carpet cleaners to be finished. I thought about getting on my trainer as I have a 30 mile ride planned for today, but I don’t want to chance being needed and having to stop and turn everything off. When I ride, I prefer to ride all out. Get it over with in one shot. Instead, I decided to re-read, add to, edit, and then post an essay I had been working on about my life-long relationship with spending, saving and sometimes doing neither. Its been on my mind a lot recently because we’ve been consulting with a retirement specialist to help us determine how best to manage our accounts and when my husband could potentially retire. I had quite a bit written, but there was a lot more I wanted to say and I still needed to organize its output. I use Evernote to keep track of my musings because I can access it anywhere, even off line on my phone. This morning I opened the app on my desktop only to find the essay in question wasn’t there. I opened the website to the same result. I finally found my draft on my cell-phone app. “Oh good,” I sighed with relief. “I’ll just sync it and it’ll show up on my laptop app.” No such luck. The opposite happened, in fact. It vanished! Oh how I wish I could call tech support and have them retrieve it from the backup server. Instead, I have discovered a major flaw with keeping something valuable on a cloud server. There’s no way to retrieve it once you’ve inadvertently written over or deleted it, unless, of course, you’re willing to pay the $50 annual upgrade fee. Since I’m not inclined to pay a fee for that one feature, I’ll just have to go back to the drawing board once I feel inspired to do so.
