Sacramento or Bust – Day 4

We were faced with an 8 hour drive to Laramie today and were motivated to get there quickly so that Kendra could spend as much time as possible with her cousin and his family. For this reason we didn’t dally at any of our stops or take any side trips to check out tourist destinations. We did, however,  drop down into Colorado and take the Fort Collins route to Laramie. By the time we reached that intersection we were ready to see something other than corn fields and cows. We did see more corn fields and cows, but we also saw sheep, prairie land, wind turbines, and the Rockies. The most beautiful stretch was climbing out of the mountains of Colorado into Wyoming. The entire day I couldn’t help but wonder at the beauty and expanse of our country.
We arrived in Laramie before our appointed time and commenced an evening of fun with Michael and his lovely family, who hosted us so graciously. After dinner we took a walk to the ice cream store and made our way back to the house while they told us stories of what it was like to live there. Not wanting to disrupt their routine too much, we bid them goodnight before 10 and settled in for the night. Tomorrow will be our longest day on the road: 9 hours to Elko and not much to entertain us along the way aside from one another and our audio book.
