2013 Race Schedule and Motivation

I had big plans for my new-found time post Myles Standish marathon. I was going to take stretching and yoga classes and work on my core strength and do a lot more reading. While I didn’t take any stretching or yoga classes, I conned … talked … my husband into taking an ultimate extreme fitness (UXF) class with me in January and we started the 60-day Insanity program the 2nd of February. Both have resulted in noticeable differences in our strength and flexibility. We snuck some skiing and snowshoeing in late December and will be going again next weekend. And lest we forget about the benefits of strength training, it came in mighty handing during Nemo when we were hit with almost 3′ of snow and had to hand shovel our 500′ driveway because the snow blower broke. Lastly, I did manage to get that reading in I had talked about; even beating the number of books I read the year before (49 v. 34).

I meant to nail down my 2013 race schedule much earlier than this (as in early January), but first we needed to nail down our vacation plans and see what was left to work with. What we settled on is a nice balance of family fun time and race-related events. It took registering for all the races to finally get my enthusiasm and excitement for the sport revved up again. For awhile there I thought I would be content this year doing one series after another of the BeachBody fitness DVDs, but once I started looking at the courses and fleshing out my training plan I decided the DVDs can wait another year. I’ll finish out the Insanity series, then will be full time into endurance training. For the record, if I ever say that I’ve lost my motivation this season please remind me how much I invested in entry fees. That’ll shut me RIGHT up!
