What I think about

The things I think about while engaged in training are many and varied and depend on what I’m doing. While swimming I’m trying to keep track of my laps so I’m thinking, “1a, 1b, 1c, 1d. 100 done. 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d. 200 done.”  It goes on in this boring way until I’ve done them all. I find it easier to keep track of laps if I break them down into 100’s first. What I think about on the bike depends if its still on the trainer or if I’m road riding. If its on the trainer I’m not thinking about anything: I’m watching a movie or an episode of whichever drama series I’m working my way through. If I’m on the road I think about the cars that are coming up behind me and hoping to hell they’re paying attention to what they’re doing and not distractedly texting their friends. When I’m running I’m listening to my shuffle at a low setting and trying to stay motivated: especially on the long runs. This is actually when I’m thinking the most, and wish I could carry a pad and pencil or a recording device with me so that I can capture some of them. They’d probably sound breathless and hard to follow, though.
