This was day one of starting over on my training plan and day one of a 2.5 day out of town conference. To give you an example of how seriously I’m taking this 19 week training plan, I elected to stay at a hotel that’s closer to a health club than to the meeting location. Its only about four miles away, but while my colleagues will get the benefit of free parking, I will be paying $15/day. My plan was to arrive at least two hours before the meeting was to begin so that I could get my 2,000 meter swim done first. Instead, I arrived with enough time to do a 45 minute run. Since my back is still not fully recovered (2 more days until my chiropractic fixer-upper) I was able to only do a shuffle-jog maneuver, but at least it LOOKED like I was running and I was able to keep it up for the full 45 minutes. I think the jog actually many have helped more than if I had done nothing. It felt great the rest of the day, and I even thought about doing tomorrow’s swim when I returned to my hotel tonight. A generous helping of nachos and a bean-laden chicken enchiladas put a stop to that idea. If I jumped into the pool now I might just sink to the bottom like the rock my stomach feels it swallowed.

But then the gas from all the beans would kick in and you’d float right back up.
