All of my scheming from yesterday came to naught today. I awoke at 3:00AM with a burst of violent coughing that would not end and out of sensitivity to my husband’s speaking circuit today, removed myself from the comfort of our shared bed to that of one I shared with the household cats. In spite of this change of venue, I awakened at 6:30AM with a severe backache but fully prepared to eke out a workout of some sort today. I decided that something would be swimming, figuring the buoyancy of the water would be therapeutic for my back. It turns out that the only exercise I got today was carrying my gym bag into the office in the morning and back to the Jeep at closing time. By noon it became abundantly clear that what I needed more than to catch up on my training plan was to seek medical assistance. Therefore, I have an appointment to see my primary care physician on Friday afternoon and my chiropractor next Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, I am resigned that my 20 week training plan is now a 19 week training plan. Since I’m a positive person by nature I’m trying to stay focused on what I know to be true: I can already do a sprint in 1.5 hours or less; I can already do an Olympic in 3 hours or less; I can already bicycle up to 80 miles in 4 hours; I can already run 13.1 miles in 2.15 hours; and I can already swim 1.5 miles in less than an hour. I may not be the fastest 50 year old (by race date) woman on the course, but I’ll be a 50 year old woman who can get the job done.
