Happy Day After Saint Patrick’s Day

Today was the long-awaited Saint Patrick’s Day 5k. It’s the same course we ran for the Jingle Bell race, although this time the girls didn’t come along. It was just Lou and me, our friend Laura and her friends. I started to get a little nervous that I was going to be the only one dressed up as a lucky charm, but my fears were laid to rest on our way to the starting line. There were people in green everything: glitter, t-shirts, boas, tu-tu’s, short-shorts, hats, beer goggles, and skirts. Lou, however, was the only man in a wig. He was a little concerned about holding me back, but it turned out he pushed me to run a little faster than I normally would go up the hills. Consequently, we ran my fastest 5k. Official times aren’t yet posted, but I’m certain it was a sub-30. Post run we joined Laura and her friends at the Five Horses for congratulatory beers and lunch. Be warned: Don’t try sneaking tater tots from her friend Kim’s plate. She WILL call you out on it, especially if you ordered something healthy. As much as we wanted to hang out all afternoon, the weather was gorgeous and we felt it would be a shame to let it go to waste by sitting in-doors all afternoon. The moment we arrived home we shed our race clothes for more suitable tanning attire and soaked up some rays while entertaining our patient mutts. “Its a good thing the weather isn’t always like this,” I said to Lou, “or we’d be in big trouble.” “Maybe so,” he replied, “but if it were we probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much.”
