Day five was an easy 5ish mile round trip walk to Duck Rock at Long Pond from the Smuggler’s Den campground and a swim for the dogs. It was also Ginger’s turn to awaken with a sore throat, and apparently Gilley’s Head of the Harbor’s day to ignore customers at the bar for more than 15 minutes who were there just two days before. We left and went back to the Seafood Ketch, which was great because we were able to bring home more blueberry PIE. On the way back we decided to stop for a beer at Captain Nemo’s, which looks like a total dive on the outside and is very eclectic and interesting on the inside. Its a family-run business and the personable bar-tender is the daughter-in-law of the owner. After reading the reviews about the food just now, we’re definitely going to give it a shot when we return.
Day six, and our 11 year wedding anniversary. Ginger awoke with a throat that was even more sore than the day before. We considered staying one more day just for the rest, but the campground was fully booked. On the way back we made a side trip to the Bar Harbor Campground, which turned out to be much bigger than Smuggler’s Den, but still had some fairly decent spaces we’d consider in the future.
