The Cadillac Escalade that took us to the airport this morning normally transports nerdy engineers. I know this from the magazines in the seat pockets: Mechanical Engineer, Power and Fortnightly. Got through checkin and security smooth as butter thanks to Lou’s well traveled ways. Healthy lunch and drinks in the Admirals Club while we waited for our puddle jumper to JFK. I just love the rocking chairs they have in the breezeways. They’re so reminiscent of Cape Cod and Nantucket. Once on board we all got a good chuckle out of some of the items that are sold in Sky Mall. Like the Potty Rock that helps train your dog to use a specific area of the yard to do their business, the inflateable wedge that makes you look like a dork while sleeping comfortably on the plane, devices you wear on your head to ward off migranes, and an accupuncture pen that, used corectly, will not only diagnose everything wrong with you but tell you how to cure yourself. In keeping with my run of bad luck sitting in front of someone on the flight who either makes constant rude noises and/or emits foul odors from mouth and/or body, I found myself wedged in front of a man who tried the entire flight from Logan to JFK to suck food out from between his teeth. Even Jess heard him from two seats up! If only I hadn’t packed my floss in my checked luggage. While waiting for our flight to Barcelona we all poured over the four guide books (the Amazon books arrived after all) to decide where we want to go. Other than hitting the beach “every single day”, Jess wants to go to Chateau d’if and Les Calanques in the Provence region of France. Mom and Dad are content to go where the girls picked out for us, but Mom says if neither picks Aix-En-Provence we’re going anyway. Kendra wants to hit 7 places in the gothic quarter of Barcelona and is still carefully reviewing her options in the rest of the city. Oh dear. She just realized she’s old enough to drink in Europe. We finally pre-boarded at 6:30. The girls were so excited they skipped and then ran down the runway and onto the plane.
