The Vacation That Almost Wasn’t – 6/21

Lou realized as he was packing last night that he had sent his passport off to get a visa for his trip to China and came flying down the stairs in a panic. He called his assistant at home but I’m guessing she didn’t answer the phone because it was after 10. He tossed and turned all night running through all possible scenarios and solving them as each arose. Today he reached the ofice at 8:30 and was told his passport was on a delivery truck to the corporate offices. Breathe a short sigh of relief that it’s only about 15 minutes from my office. I received a call from them mid-morning letting me know it had arrived. Prior to picking it up I drove over to the mall to purchase guide books since the ones I ordered on Amazon hadn’t yet arrived. When I got there I discovered I only had three quarters for the meter but wasn’t worried about it since I wasn’t going to be long. I had already researched what I wanted on line so it was a quick trip, but not as quick as I hoped because as I turned the corner my Jeep was missing. My first thought was that it was stolen. My second thought was that I got towed for being short one quarter. I became angry and panicked all at once then started hyperventilating while dialing Lou’s number for assistance. As the phone rang the second time it dawned on me that this wasn’t where I parked after all. I had parked the next block up the hill. I sheepishly hung up the phone and proceeded to my Jeep, where I discovered a parking ticket under my wiper but not a towing notice.  I then picked up the passport and returned to work. The rest of the day was without incident and we were even packed and ready for bed by 10.
